Basic Installation

Modello masking patterns are very easy to install. This section shows how to use a "tape hinge" method when applying smaller elements such as this corner piece.

Carefully position the Modello in place with the pattern showing through the transfer tape side. The backing paper side will be facing the floor.

Run a wide piece of blue tape along one edge, half on the floor and half on the Modello. Make sure that this is secure as you don't want the pattern to shift.

Use the provided squeegee to "hard burnish" the transfer tape to the Modello pattern. The job of the transfer tape is simply to hold the pattern together until it is safely secured to the surface.

Burnishing like this will bond the transfer tape to the Modello pattern better and aid in a clean and easy release of the backing paper.

Now, flip the Modello back on the tape hinge to "open the door".

Burnishing again on the back side of the Modello, the backing paper. Again, this will actually help it to release better.

Peel the backing paper (always from the hinge edge) slowly and at a 180-degree angle straight back on to itself.

If any of the Modello pattern still wants to stick the backing paper, simply reburnish it back on to the transper tape. If you've burnished well to start with this shouldn't happen.

Now the adhesive backing of the Modello is completely exposed, you will want to carefully control it as you apply it to the surface.

Hold the free end taut as you press down and smooth at the hinge. Run your hand back and forth across the pattern (following the direction of the tape hinge) as you slowly roll it down on to the surface. Once in place, re-burnish with squeegee to ensure a tight seal of the Modello to the surface below.

Remove the transfer tape after burnishing by peeling it straight back on to itself at a 180-degree angle, just as you did the backing paper. For larger designs you may find it helpful to moisten the transfer tape by running over it with a damp sponge. This small amount of moisture will help to loosen the adhesive slightly.

Tape around the edges of the Modello to protect the background surface before applying your decorative technique!
