Image Options
A major key to the versatility of the Modello medium is that the adhesive quality of the material allows for the use of either the positive or negative image. After the Modello pattern is cut, the designated areas of the pattern (positive or negative) are "weeded out" (removed) prior to our application of the Transfer Tape.
When placing a custom-sized order through the Design Library, please specify a Positive Weed or a Negative Weed.

The areas shown in black are the areas that will be "weeded out" or removed from your Modello masking pattern. The areas shown in white represent the masking material that remains and will cover/protect your surface.
Choose a positve weed if you wish to apply your technique to the design area itself. For instance: emboss, color stain, or etch the design. These are the types of applications most often associated with stenciling and are the most common approaches.
Choose negative weed if you wish to use the pattern as a "resist" or "inlay" and to work your technique within the negative spaces. For negative patterns, you will be masking off the design area, preserving what lies underneath, and etching, staining or adding texture to the exposed "negative" spaces around the design.
No-Weed Option
You may also choose the No-Weed option. Your Modello will arrive unweeded, allowing you to weed out the pattern yourself after it has been applied to the surface. Please note that this will require much more work on your part as weeding can be tedious, time consuming and much more difficult once the Modello is adhered to a surface-but it does provide you with the option to go either way! There is no price difference for the No-Weed option.
