Modello Material Options
The beauty of Design on DemandTM is that it allows you to choose the material (adhesive strength and thickness) that best suits your project needs.
Material samples are available upon request and are recommended for testing surfaces and techniques.
4 mil Modello Blue Mask-Our most popular material!
(Lowest Tack)
Use on: Smooth surfaces such as walls, ceilings, painted or stained wood, glass and smooth finish plaster materials such as Venetian Plaster, Lusterstonetm, etc.
Use for: Paint, glaze, gilding, glass etching, faux marquetry/staining and low relief embossing or inlays.
Tack Strength: Lowest-tack adhesive material suitable for stable, dry and cured surfaces.
Advantages: The blue material makes the design very easy to see and position during installation. The specially designed adhesive allows for very easy removal and is recommended for more sensitive surfaces, such as ceilings.
Disadvantages: Smaller roll width: 30". Can only be used on smooth surfaces.
4 mil Modello White Mask
(Low Tack)
Use on: Smooth and semi-smooth surfaces such as walls, ceilings, painted or stained wood, glass and smooth textural and plaster materials such as Venetian Plaster, Lusterstonetm, etc.
Use for: Paint, glaze, gilding, glass etching, faux marquetry/staining and low relief embossing or inlays.
Tack Strength: Low-tack adhesive material suitable for stable, dry and cured surfaces.
Advantages: Roll widths up to 48" allow for large-scale designs to be cut in wide sections. Can be used on slightly rough textured plasters with the addition of spray adhesive.
Disadvantages: Can only be used on smooth and semi-smooth surfaces.
10 mil /25 mil
Modello Green Mask
(Regular Tack)
Use on: Smooth and semi-smooth surfaces such as walls, ceilings, painted wood and smooth to semi-smooth textural and plaster materials.
Use for: Higher relief embossing and inlays.
Tack Strength: medium-tack adhesive material suitable for stable, dry and cured smooth and semi-smooth surfaces.
Advantages: Sticks to rougher textured, "stone-like" plasters. Can be used to create higher relief embossed designs. Can be used for sandblasting patterns into wood, corian, glass, marble and granite.
Disadvantages: Higher tack strength may damage improperly prepared drywall. (Apply heat with a hair dryer on removal to loosen adhesive)
Caution: Modellos are cut from one-time-use adhesive materials. The adhesive material may damage sensitive surfaces (surfaces that are not stable, dry or fully cured).
Test your surface: If the surface may be removed or damaged by masking tape, it may be damaged by the Modello material. Please test any questionable surfaces or areas prior to applying Modello patterns. Modello “testers” are available upon request. We'll be happy to send you some!
